A day at St. Paul's

Morning

We greet the children as they arrive and self-register by choosing their name from the table. We have circle time where a member of staff will take the register whilst the children sing songs and discuss the day, date and weather and share any news they have.

9.15 Free play – the children are able to move around the setting and choose which activities they would like to take part in. The resources are clearly labelled so that the children are able to become independent in choosing their activities. There are also adult-led activities to provide the children with a balance in their learning.

10.00-10.45 Rolling snack time – We encourage independence and children are able to choose when to have their snack during this time. Each morning a drink of milk or water and a healthy snack are provided for the children.

10.45 Tidy up time – the children are shown the sand timer 5 minutes before it is time to tidy up to give them time to finish their activity. The children are encouraged to tidy up the resources they have used and to help in mopping up spills or sweeping up sand.

11.00 Large/small group time – the children will take part in group activities with their key person. This may involve songs and rhymes, games or a shared story.

11.20 Outdoor play – we support the children in experiencing all types of weather and we have a variety of equipment including wheeled toys, balls, hoops, a parachute, large wooden blocks, outdoor resource boxes such as builder’s box, science box, wet day box, windy day box. If the weather is unsuitable for outdoor play, the large hall is used for ring games or other physical activities.

11.55 Pre-school morning session ends with a simple goodbye prayer.

Lunch club

Children bring a packed lunch to pre-school.  The children sit with their friends and members of staff to have their lunch.  This is a good time for both children and staff to talk about their morning at pre-school and what they have enjoyed and what they would like to do during the afternoon session, if they are staying for the day.  We ask parents for their support in providing the children with healthy, balanced food in their lunch boxes as we ensure that the children are given healthy snacks and drinks during their sessions at pre-school.

Afternoon sessions

Our afternoon session offer a varied program of activities which are designed to compliment our morning sessions. These sessions offer a balance of adult/child initiated activities which follow the children’s interests. It includes outdoor play and an afternoon snack.
